A highlight of the 1939 Buffalo County fair was a 4-H project little bull which got loose and ate some of the ribbons. Fair officials replaced them.

Kearney High School enrollment in 1936 was 621. Longfellow school was built in 1890 and doubled in size with an addition in 1912 which included an auditorium. It was remodeled again in 1936.
