Minnie Anderson

Minnie Lillian was the youngest child of David and Olivia Anderson. She was born in 1880 at Marengo, Iowa. Minnie was eight when her mother died. When her father remarried and then moved from Iowa to Nebraska she moved with him. For a time around 1900 she lived with her brother, William, probably helping his wife, Anna, care for two babies.

Minnie married Frank Couch of York in about 1902. They had two sons, Ralph, born about 1903, and Herbert, born about 1907. She died in the spring of 1907. So far we have not been able to obtain any further information on either son. It has been said that Herbert at one time lived in Oswego, Illinois, and died there in 1970, possibly of a heart condition.

Frank Couch was a farmer in the York, Nebraska, area as was his father. Frank’s father, Calvin B. Couch, was born in 1841 in Illinois. In November, 1861 he enlisted with H Company, 11th Illinois Cavalry to fight in the Civil War. He attained the rank of Corporal and was held as a prisoner of war at Danville, Macon and Andersonville before being discharged in May, 1862. Besides farming, Calvin also apparently did some preaching because his tombstone names him as Rev. C. B. Couch. Frank’s mother was Mattie Kirk Couch. She died in 1918 and his father in 1922. Frank survived his wife by 36 years, dying in 1943. All are buried in the York Cemetery.

Rev. C. B. Couch and his wife Mattie are in the foreground.  Minnie's grave is to the left of the big stone. Frank is in front
of it. We see his headstone here to the right of the big stone
because of the angle from which the picture was taken.
