Edward E. (Eddie) Anderson

Edward E. Anderson was born in the Marengo, Iowa, area November 7, 1877. He was called Eddie most of his life. The family lived on at least two different farms in Iowa County before his mother died in 1889. When his father remarried and moved to Nebraska in about 1895, Eddie accompanied them. By 1900 he was living with his brother, William, and helping him on his farm in Colfax County, in the Howells area. About 1904, William’s son, Edward L., remembers, his uncle was living with them while he studied for his Civil Service exam. At Howells Eddie met Myrtle Pont, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ben Pont of Stanton, Nebraska, whom he married about 1908.

Eddie apparently passed that Civil Service exam. By the time his first daughter, Bertha, was born on December 7, 1909, he and Myrtle were living in Omaha. Their second daughter, born about 1911 only lived six days. Then Grace was born May 6, 1914.

Eddie worked as a Postal Railway Clerk. He and Myrtle lived at 3161 Meredith Avenue in Omaha in 1920. They lived at that address for the rest of their lives. The family belonged to the Methodist Church and Eddie was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In 1951 Myrtle died of a heart condition and Eddie died in 1968. They are buried at West Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

Bertha Anderson was a biology teacher. She married William Henry Brewer and they lived in Omaha. They had a daughter, Delores, in 1941 and a son Roger in 1947. Tragedy struck in 1962 when Henry and Delores were apparently involved in a car-train accident. Delores died November 22, 1962. Henry died November 16, 1963.

Roger was working in a library in Omaha and living in Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1971.  He died December 16, 2000.  Bertha died November 11, 1990.  All of them are buried in the Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha.

Edward's other daughter, Grace, also stayed in Omaha where she married Eugene Allbee. Eugene was the son of Earl and Maud Allbee. His father was a chiropodist with an office in Omaha. Eugene and Grace also two children approximtely the same age as Bertha’s. Their son Kenneth went to work for United Air Lines after graduating from college. He died in Colorado in May 2002. Eugene and Grace stayed in Omaha. Eugene died November 11, 1998 and Grace died September 23, 2002.
